As part of our effort to support an infrastructure
of collaboration between researchers, lawyers and advocates, we
believe in the importance for CRP to conduct conferences and trainings.
Many of our conferences are envisioned to foster debate and have
drawn experts from several distinct areas, commissioned for further
research by CRP. The convenings for 2009 included:

Looking to the Future: Legal and Policy Options for Racially Integrated Education in the South and the Nation
April 2, 2009. Chapel Hill, NC
The Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles convened a conference in Chapel Hill with The Center for Civil Rights at UNC School of Law, the Education Policy and Evaluation Center at the University of Georgia. This conference focused on the future of public education in the wake of the United States Supreme Court's 2007 decision in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1 (PICS). This conference was designed to heighten scholarly understanding of the PICS decision and promote discussion about immediate and long-term policy options available to school districts across the nation for whom racial integration remains a priority.
The PICS decision is widely known for placing limits on what school districts can do to voluntarily pursue racially integrated schools. But the PICS decision also is important for what it left in place.
The Students We Share: New Research from Mexico and the United States: A Binational Conference
January 15-16, 2010 - NEW DATE. Mexico City, Mexico
This binational conference is to be held at the University of California's Casa de California, in Mexico City, Mexico on January 15-16, 2010. This meeting will bring together our two nations' leading Pre-K-12 education and migration researchers and policymakers. It will provide a rare opportunity to share current research from both countries, and to explore future lines of interchange and collaboration in service to the children our countries share. In addition to thematic panels and keynote addresses from leaders in the field, there will be ample opportunities for cross-national networking and collaboration through participation in conference working groups and social activities.
